Gotta love the conspiracy theorists eh? This guy is insane, but what is totally beyond belief is the number of people that follow him and take his word as gospel. Ok, each to their own but come on man...

              A quote from his website

The computer you are reading this on, your washing machine, coffee maker, and other devices will be “wired” in the near future. They will be transmitting data to the “internet of things.”

Now, if my washing machine started passing info on about me I would be thinking I had picked the wrong herbs from my garden

Well, it's a true statement. Your washing machine will be able to txt you when it needs de-scaling, your coffee maker will tell you about the latest Sainsbury's offer on java beans, your fridge can tell you when you're running low on eggs, etc.

You can decide for yourself the extent to which this worries you.

What really concerns me is - will I be able to find out whether KCN's fridge is running low on eggs - and if so should I let Sainsbugs or MI5 know?

As we in Scotland know "Facts are cheels that winna ding" which I think means "you can't argue with fact".

We have "smart-bins" on campus which are solar powered and compress the waste inside then e-mail the Estates Dept when they need emptied. I don't know why they don't take it one step further and use solar power to combust the waste then they'd almost never need emptied.

The trouble is, that when people are inspired to issue warnings like this they're automatically labelled as crazies, and marginalised, unless they have the sense to disguise their warnings as fiction/literature. In other cultures, people who prophecy are treated with respect, and the whole of Christianity and Islam are based on the teachings of prophets...

In general, members of this forum are wary of the control of big corporations and manipulative press practices, so perhaps this 'crazy' isn't so far out there?

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get ya!

So, someone somewhere is paid to monitor my computer keystrokes, read my emails, study my on-line shopping habits... Jeez, some jobs are sh!te huh!?

I think my problem is that I'm a peaceful, atheist, apolitical law-abiding citizen with nothing to hide. Hence no paranoia here. Monitor away saddos!

It's not so very far-fetched. Most people's shopping habits are monitored, because they use supermarket points/loyalty schemes which log every single thing they buy. At the moment that's used to further the commercial interests of the company, which one implicitly agrees to by using the scheme, but it's not too big a step to see that being used to control in a more overt way.
Then there's the whole monitoring of emails and online activity in the news at the moment, and Greenpeace have just published some research about the purpose of Menwith Hill 'RAF' base (really American NSA base) outside Harrogate.

I dunno, I just think it's too easy for 'the system' to write off people saying uncomfortable things by labelling them as crazies, and then the things they're saying don't have to be examined.
