Help - wall of fence?

    Help - wall of fence?

    A screen block wall is about to be knocked down (straight into next door's patio base as hardcore ). My problem is how to replace it. Some photos

    This is from my side.

    They are putting up a wooden fence that will reach to about the top of the 2nd row of screenblocks but there is a foot gap between their boundary and my wall, so I need something to stop the dogs and me from falling down the gap. Also low maintenance as access from their side will be difficult once their fence is up. There was a big laurel hedge there before.
    What ideas please? Something that lets light through would be good as it faces south and I could grow something in pots there.

    So what will stop someone unknowingly falling down the foot gap?

        We have the wooden trellis type fence panels in our garden.

          So you're going to have to build up a wall to replace the existing (off your patio), or attach a fence (lattice) in the same place.

          I've found something called fence post supports which you would screw down onto the patio, and drop the fence posts into, which look like they would do the job.

            Could you angle some trellis over the gap to allow something to climb over?

              Yes, Hazel, something like that. I've used Metposts before for summat similar. Its an opportunity to have the wall down now as it can go straight into backfill next door. If I leave it for another year or so, there'll be skips to hire and more labour costs in removing it, as well as the difficulty of access once next door's fence is in place.
              Not helped by the builder's telling me that "If you were my Mother I'd be worried about you". Apparently it was because I was leaning on the wall, that they could see had cracks in

                Are you looking to hide the gap or put something on your side to stop someone falling down the gap?

                  VC,

                  What about a nice candle top picket type fence..will let plenty of light thru and can be secured using something like Hazel suggested...??
                  I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

                    I can't risk the dogs falling down the gap so there has to be some sort of barrier. I hate those screen blocks and will be glad to see them gone but I'm really puzzled about what to use instead.
                    I've thoughts about toughened glass panels but the bottom of the glass would look through to the back of their fence. Wire mesh of some sort? Railings? Wood fence or trellis. Block or brick?

                      VC I know this is a serious matter...........but in terms of fencing I can't help thinking.........electric tape!

                        You could put up a glass panel between two metal post on either side. It wouldn't have to be clear glass, it could be etched or patterned glass, or you could also get the glass printed on the back with a picture and sandwich it between two glass panels. I'll try an attach a picture of our splashback in the kitchen, we've had that printed onto glass.

                          There is another factor - cost!! I don't want it to be too expensive, just fit for purpose. Safe, easy to maintain, not blocking the view........and, for Feral, not too shocking
                          The builder's haven't arrived yet, so I'm just popping round for a pallet

                            If you wanted to entertain the glass option VC, let me know I'll give you the numbers of some local suppliers that you could get a quote from.

                              I'll have their numbers please, Mr M! I need a splash back as I've not got one yet, and none are the correct size so it's going to have to be a custom cut job I guess!
