    Is it Possible ?

    Hello, after finding no sloes or damsons this year i was wonderng wheather you can buy them as small trees and grow your own?

    i am unable to grow in the ground but i can in large pots would it work do you think ?

    if not would it be feasable to re sow in the wild along a bridle path ? there use to be sloes down there a few years ago but the plant seems to have vanished. is this possible or is it a case of better not bother ?

    I'm after some sloes also. Can they be grown from cuttings? I don't know where any are around me

      There are lots of companies selling sloe/blackthorn plants for hedging eg BLACKTHORN (Prunus spinosa) (Sloe). Hedging Plants, Trees, Shrubs and Conifers. I don't think that growing them in pots would be
      worthwhile - better to use your pots for something more productive. Take some time next year to locate sloe bushes in the wild and remember them for later in the year. I haven't seen many sloes around this year - don't think its a good year for them.

        I took some cuttings after one on a previous plot I had was cut down. They pretty much all rooted, but I forgot about them when I left the plot

          Quite a bit away from the path, or else they'll block it with nasty big thorns. Blackthorn | RFS

          I went to "my" patch last week, and found ... 5 sloes. Someone's been down there with a machete I think, the bushes have been very roughly hacked back off the bridleway. I might order some to plant in the school's wildlife garden

            I recently purchased a Blackthorn/sloe bush from Victoriana Nursery's. It was £4.95 plus delivery. I have to say it was very good quality and well packaged. I planted it about 2 months ago and it's doing very well. In fact, everything I bought from them has been excellent.

              Dozens of suckers spring up near sloe hedging, in my case about fifteen feet away which shows how far the roots spread. I've had very few sloes this year so I expect there'll be a bumper crop next year if weather permits and that any bushes that have been hacked will come back more vigorous than before. Nasty spines and exceedingly sour fruits, sloes aren't the first thing I'd think of for a school garden.
