  • Brewing leftovers, green or brown compost?

    Hi all,
I do a lot of home brewing and as such get a lot of leftover grains and hops. I know these are compostable, but I'm not sure whether they are classed as green or brown materials. I'm hoping that the grains are brown and the hops green so that they balance each other out, but if they're both brown then I'm going to need to get out there this afternoon and mow the lawn

It doesn't really matter, just bung them in

If they're very wet, add some scrunched or shredded newspaper

OK, thanks. They were pretty wet, but it's too late to go out and mix in any newspaper now. It's a pretty fresh compost pile, less than a week old so I'm sure it'll all rot down eventually. Maybe I'll have time to add some paper in the morning.

The easiest way would be to wrap your leftovers in a couple of sheets of newspaper before you add it to the compost bin ... for next time
