well, i put some stuff into the local horticultural show this week and when i went to view all the amazing veg/fruit that have been conjured out of this dismal summer,i found i had a first for the plums, and a second for the cooking apples, the plums fruited late because of the weather and the bramleys were a good size and condition, well watered, that means next year i will have to make more of an effort, and actually grow for the show specifically, not just for me belly....all said,im well chuffed,in 30 odd years ive never won anything before..

Brilliant buffs. Well done! Have you joined the NVS national veg society ? I think that's what it's called. For competition growers like YOU!

i was gently coerced into it and had no hopes whatsoever, you should have seen some of the stuff these guys have produced, absolutely amazing, onions the size of rugby balls, carrots by the foot,it must take them all the year to be able to show astounding veg like that,i just had a bit of show beginners luck,i thought at the time i was watching them bring their stuff in, (very disheartening) that if any dropped on a foot, someone would end up in A & E with severe bruising.when it was all laid out, thanks to tireless committee men,it was an awesome sight, and next year could(?) be a good summer, and that will be a picture to the eye...
