  • How/when to prune a peach tree?

    Hi,

I am new to gardening and have some questions (most of them probably quite silly...), one being how and when to prune a young peach tree, which I bought from Homebase this spring. It is pot grown and I just planted it in a much bigger one shortly after that. It didn't flower this season and the leaves came out quite late, but despite some curl leaves, it looks quite healthy. It hasn't been pruned and looks more like a bush. I would be ok, if the place I found for it, is not in partial shade at the bottom but it is - walls from 3 sides, which the tree is getting taller than). So it is protected from winds, etc. but the lower branches are in the shade most of the time. Shall I cut them, when, how and do I need to cover the wounds with some sort of paint or something else? All advice is welcome and highly appreciated! Thanks in advance

If it was supplied as a pot-grown tree it was probably about 2-years old, and by the sound of it already trained in a bush-style. If so I would just leave it as it is and let it carry on growing. Pruning is often not necessary with peaches, plums etc.
