Yes, Suzan you can cut the tops off when they reach the greenhouse roof.

How far apart are your tom plants? The reason I ask is it is possible to 'unclip' the tom plant from the cane lay it along the ground untill the first truss then start it up a convenient cane. If not, best to nip off the top of the plant.

      Cheers, Tony.

One of mine has reached the top of the conswervatory, I was going to tie some string along the roof from side to side and tie it to that so it goes along!

I wish I had the same problem. My tomatoes have only got 1ft tall this year - but then I don't have a green house

Congrats on your prolific tomato growth!

No problems in doing that although you may not be able to ripen any tomatoes growing from the higher trusses. Mind you, green tomato chutney is delish.

If we get a late summer no reason why they won't still ripen ..........

That is interesting, I am a first time grower and growing out doors amd at least one of my plants is over 4 feet tall. I did start them inside though, ie in house on window sill etc..
Also when I put them out I put them under a 'mini-green house', something I built with small branches and clear plastic (clear bin liners cut open). I probably grew them to 18 inches in there (until they hit the roof!!) I basically just tied the branches together into a box shape and made a cover.
I think would have done just as well without the cover but can't say for sure, I actually took them out
because I thought it was too damp for them in there and it seemed to cause some type of disease.
They seem to have recovered from that more or less. I have lots of small tomatoes of various sizes, the biggest the size of...let me think, a small plumb, eyeball? gob stopper? 'fourer' marble?
Might be the variety though but I have three type and all doing OK 3 foot wuld be smallest or there about. Are yours in the ground? Or pots? I put a bit of fertiliser in, but not much. I don't get a huge amount of sun either, small garden, fences north facing garden.

Some tomatoes can be grown upside down? Maybe they have to be the right type, I am a total novice.
So maybe you could try getting them to bend over - lol.
Mine are out doors, biggest if a bit over 4 feet, seem to be doing OK I have lots of small green tomatoes.
One thing I would say is the tallest of mine is one I pruned, ie pinching out suckers, I think that made it grow higher, I left most of the rest,s some went a bit crazy growing sideways lol. But also the tallest has very few and small tomatoes!! Smaller unpruned ones seem to be doing better regarding fruit!!
