  • Preserving food 'bible'

    Hi,
    Would there be 'one' book out there that people would consider 'The Bible' when it comes to preserving methods and recipes for preserves? The most I've ever done is stick salad leaves in a plastic bag in the fridge
    I'm hoping to get a good comprehensive book that would cover all or most things (not asking for much there!) and last me a life time.

    There are so many books out there and I have quite a few myself but this is the one I return to most times "Good Housekeeping" Complete Book of Preserving: Amazon.co.uk: "Good Housekeeping": Books.

        Thanks guys. Well I'm thinking of something that would cover everything - blanching, pickling, jams, sauces. Like I said, not asking for much in one book. A big fat hardback reference book.

                            I have several wrinkly/sticky/blobby pages of recipes I've printed off and use as my 'old favourites'
                            Have to agree though- I too am addicted to the smell of paper ( could never enjoy a Kindle me thinks for that very reason!)

                            And yes- I too have the Good Housekeeping book !

                              I bought the WI Book of Preserving recently in The Works for £3.99, instead of £14.99. Its nice but very superficial compared to the GH one.
                              My GH book is covered in annotations - where I've varied the recipe - and useful coloured blobs so that I know what it should turn out like! Its a bit like a paint chart
