  • Dwarf plum tree going yellow

I bought a dwarf plum, a Seneca. I heeled it into a pot and then planted it out in the garden in the Atutmn. It started out ok but now the leaves have turned yellow and have started to drop. It's been raining forever in Cambridgeshire so I don't think it's dry. I did site a bag of potatoes nearby I wonder if that is upsetting it. The leaves don't appear to be infested or curling. I'm at a loss. Ideas anyone?

I notice you're in Cambs - but put your location in your profile because it helps a lot when giving advice, due to the wide range of soils and climates throughout the UK.

As you note: it has been the wettest, dullest spring for over a hundred years, so lack of rain is unlikely to be a problem.

Normally, yellow leaves are one of the following:
    The tree is drought stressed.
The roots are dying from disease and not supplying the leaves.
The leaves have been damaged by aphids or other insect pests.
    Lack of light.
    Nutrient deficiency.
    Chalky subsoil poisoning the plant.

Can you show a picture? - there's more than one kind of "yellowing" of leaves and sometimes a problem is instantly recognisable by the way the leaves look.
