  • Raspberry saga... gutted!

A friend of mine gave me 15 raspberry canes from her allotment in February, which I planted out very soon after.

Sadly only 6 have sprouted foliage so this morning I did the scratch test at the base of the canes to look for signs of life. Sadly no green and very much dead. I am gutted.

I can't really afford to go out and buy loads of canes to replace them at the moment so it will have to wait until next year. I am wondering whether I will be able to transplant any of the canes that come up this summer at the end of the year, or is that unrealistic?

    Thanks!

You can get more plants that way, it will just take a bit longer to get an established row.

If you lived closer you could come and dig up as many as you liked!

Where in hampshire are you? I have raspberries coming up all over the place where they're not wanted. If you're near by I'm happy to leave and dig up in the autumn

I don't know why I expected them all to come up. My garden is not that big so it's a real pain when things don't grow!

I planted them all along a fence which I was going to use as a support system with wire. I think they are summer fruiting raspberries... the friend who gave them to me isn't sure

Here is a picture - you can just about see the canes planted along the fence (I wasn't specifically taking a photo of them but it gives you an idea).
