  • Wot the 'eck..........

Have decided...... With space fast running out at home , tomorrow will be chucking out some celery and some toms up the lottie. Accuweather doesn't show frost for the next week so am going for it . Have some donated gardeners delight and half a dozen celery I can risk .......Brave or stupid?

There comes a point when needs must. Are you near enough to dash up with a bit of fleece if frost is forecast? (Why do we go UP to the allotment or is it just me that says it?)

I've had 3 tomato plants out for 3 weeks now [under plastic containers upturned] and put about 12 out at the weekend [under enviromesh]. Straw all round to keep ground frost at bay.

I've got plenty left if they do get frosted but I'm keeping fingers crossed they don't - natch!

I put the rest of the allotment crops out today - tomatillos and runner beans being the worst for frost risk. Will be planting the tomatoes and tomatillos outside this weekend at home straight into large buckets with the hope that the new roots along the stem will help the plant! They're in a right state with a mix of sun burn and frostbite.

Would say needs must. Course, now there'll be a frost to catch us all!

If it helps any, Alan Titchmarsh on a classical radio station this morning was asked the same question and said its fine to plant out, just be ready with the fleece (it was about bedding plants, but same difference i feel).
