  • Turf ??????

I am digging up quite a lot of turf, and am piling it up turf side down, then I intend to cover it in plastic. Is this correct, and is it any good as compost?.

Yep. You don't have to cover it - but in 12-18months time it'll be a good loam that can be added back into your beds. It's not the same as "compost" in the sense of nutrients but added back to your beds/growing area it'll improve the soil structure etc

      Yep- spot on!

This is what we've been doing each time we create a new bed in the field. You'll need to leave it covered over certainly until the Autumn- possibly the Spring.
It's more of a 'fibrous material' back into the soil than a 'well rotted compost' though.

With any luck you may find slow worms in there when you pull back the covers!
