  • Where to get the cheapest Strawberry plants?

    Hiya,

Anyone know where the cheapest Strawberry plants are?

I got 6 for £3.00 in Tesco a couple of years ago but can only find them for about £1.50 each. Don't want to spend that much.

    thanks.

Lidl? Don't know whether they're on offer at the mo. It was discussed on here recently.

Will check it out. I have an Aldi down the road so I might look in there. It's annoying that none of my friends have any I can pinch.

What happened to your original plants?

ask around your local allotment site. I gave away two separate batches of young plants today.

Don't spend too long driving around looking for cheapest plants because you'll soon burn through several quid's worth of petrol, making the plants actually much more expensive.

Yes, when I used to grow maincrop strawberries, I was struggling to give away all the spare runners!

Same with cuttings/prunings from currants which I'd just stick in the ground; I sometimes got far more baby currant bushes than I know what to do with.

Same with "spare" fruit trees; I always have a small stock of spares, but I struggle to find anyone who wants them, even if I offer to deliver it and plant it for them for free!

I moved house and and my new garden is much smaller (On the plus side the old house belongs to my parents who live abroad. The house is being rented out by students so when they move out in June I can go an raid the garden for all the stuff I left behind) I just don't want to wait that long. I also have 2 dwarf apples, a massive rhubarb patch and loads of other stuff.
