  • Help with Camellia please.

I have been admiring my neighbours white camellia and yesterday she shocked me by handing it to me over the fence.Very nice of her i know, but i fear she may have dug it up at the wrong time, its still has buds on it.I need to know what soil to use when i plant it.I'm thinking it might be best planted in a pot and put in the greenhouse until next year.
    Ideas please.

Camellias are perfectly hardy, and should have buds on now. They flower very early spring. If the soil in her garden suited it then it should be fine in your garden. They like acidic soil, and put it somewhere where it won't get early morning sun. If I were you, I would dig it a nice hole and get it planted straight away.

Thankyou for your reply rustylady,i've just been out to get a bag of soil,(the type it needs). At the moment i've put it in a large pot as i don't have a space yet in the garden. The leaves look a bit yellow and i'm guessing its down to the poor soil it was in.Fingers crossed it will be ok until the new year.
