  • Blackberry Loch Ness or Waldo

I'm looking to get a new variety of blackberry to plant against the northwest side of my shed at the lottie. It needs to be thornless, and ideally not too vigorous. I've looked online, and liked the sound of Loch Ness or Waldo. Has anyone experience of these two? What do they taste like, what about their growth habit etc? I'm not too concerned about the harvest time.
The one I've got at the moment in the garden, is, I think, Oregon Thornless, which is much too vigourous. The new canes grow enormously long, and take over each year. The shed is only 8ft wide, so the blackberry needs to be happy with that sort of space.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
    Now a little Shrinking Violet.

I decided on Waldo, partly because I was taken out yesterday for an early birthday as Kissykit came home, but could not stay for Monday. We went to Dobbies, as she hasn't been there before, and they had that variety for £7.99. OH also bought me some of the ciso cordless pruners as my hands are not so good these days, and I've a lot of pruning to do.
The plant is now safely planted in at the back of the shed at the lottie, and now I get to do battle with the Oregon Thornless that has to come out of the garden. The new 'canes' have gone down the garden, and then round the trellis in front of the greenhouse, counting fence panels that makes some of them 20ft long! The secateurs will come in handy for the job. When I was investigating last weekend, 3 tips have rooted into the ground, so what did I do? Snipped them off and potted them up. WHY?
