decapitated butternut

I was hoeing today and managed to decapitate one (of four) of my butternut squashes.

I am most annoyed with myself!

Bit late to replant now, so I have a most unpleasing 'gap'- better plant something else there quick!

Annoying isn't it? Mr Z does that - he has hoed a complete bed of nicely spaced leeks and wondered why I ranted at him. I gave up doing it nicely, he doesn't pay any attention. I did mention that it's not often weeds space themselves out at 4 inch intervals is it so why didn't he notice?

He has his own [lottie] bed now.

My answer is only to hand weed and to mulch. Which reminds me, I have a bale and a half of straw to spread out later over my beds. It makes me sneeze so best take lots of tissues.
