  • Clematis Montana - Pruning

Well more of a hacking back really

I have one that is smothering two 6'x6' trellis which is starting to collapse. The clematis has just finished flowering, is it OK to hack it all back down to about 2" high so the trellis can be replaced or do I need to leave a little bit more of it?

I had one I used to cut right down to the ground every couple of years and it was fine. Cut back after flowering as hard as you need to, they do become a bit rampant don't they!
