Hi, any ideas on getting my nasturiums to germinate? I've three times and have run out of seeds!

Sounds like you must have had dodgy seeds as they're normally really easy and once you've grown them you'll get self seeded ones coming up for eternity

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yup, I agree. They are really easy to grow and, as Alison said, once you have grown them, they pop up all over the place. I too, think you have a pack of bad seeds - sorry!

I soak mine which helps with the hard casing. Is it possible the soil dried out? Anyways get some more from morrisons, they're only 59p

We sowed a pack at school before the Easter hols, and had only about 20% germination. I've put it down to them roasting in the heatwave though

i've had problems with nasturtiums this year too! Only 3 out of 9 germinated, i've had no volunteers either, although it might be a little early. Have bought two new packets of seeds and hoping for better luck in the next few weeks.....i think the probelm is as shadylane says that they dry out easily....need to keep them very well watered.

I will scatter my nasturtion seeds now we have had a good few hours of rain.. the next rain will wash em in and they should be away. Am going to pop down later and scatter sweed seeds.

The first lot I tried this year failed, more luck with the second lot but only about half have come through. I've bought another packet and will soak them before putting them into the seed tray.

My first lot had about 50% germination. I got a pack of five from Wilkinson and, going by the 50% rate planted a LOT. Got a wheelbarrow full of the things coming up now!

Any tips for getting them big, strong and flowering? Are they best left to get on with it or do they need a bit of TLC?
