    Supermarket Seeds

    Following a couple of posts from other members recently, I bought myself several packets of bargain priced seeds and seed tape from Lidl.

    Today, we were shopping in Morrison's and saw they had a good selection of flowers and vegetable seeds under their own brand at 59p a packet. Most of which were dated until 2013. I bought a few packets for early next year. Well, at 59p for 30 sweet pea seeds for example you can't go wrong.

      Oooo, I love a bargain. If there hybrids (F1) they might not come true to the ones you sow this year. Seed saving is not really an option with hybrids, unless you are looking to discover something new. Most bought seeds are hybrids unless you go for an heirloom variety. I've seeds saved in the past with sweet peas and I've noticed little differences to the original plants I'd sown the year before, but it's exciting to see what will pop out of the flower buds .

        Most of the seeds I buy are from the bargain basement ranges- Lidl, etc. Netto have a good selection for 19p each!

        I've found that they are just as reliable as the £2.99 packets....you just get less, but few people need 1500 carrot seeds.

          We've bought most of our seeds from either Lidl or the 99p shop. Although we obviously can't compare like for like, we've had better germination rates than the more expensive ones from the garden centre, so I know where we'll be buying from next year.
