  • Bug to identify

    Hi,

This is my first year with an allotment. I am concerned about a bug I spotted on my broadbeans a few days ago. I took a picture with a macro lens which revealed him up to something, maybe laying eggs. Could anyone identify it and give advice/warnings.

    Cheers

Looks like a rose chafer to me. Here are some additional images which might help.

ARKive - Rose chafer videos, photos and facts - Cetonia aurata

They can cause damage in the garden but personally I haven't seen them on my beans, and haven't experienced the damage they can cause.

If you use the search option (towards the top of the page) and enter 'rose chafer', you'll find loads of references to this beetle, which should give you much more info than I can.

By the way, a very warm welcome to the vine!
A good beginning is half the work.
Praise the young and they will make progress.

      Thank you!

Thank you for the info. Doesn't sound too bad then, I'll do a bit of reading around.

      Regards,
