  • I'm going to have a tiny allotment!

    A "plot" is 30' x 8' for £5 a month and I'll probably go for 2 plots.

Am I going to be able to get a decent amount of veg out of it with that size? Luckily I do have space at home as well for salad veg and I wanted to use the allotment for bigger things.

I'm going to have to be creative with raised beds and companion planting aren't I :/

Oh and also I don't need room for a greenhouse as I have on which is about 28' x 10' at the end of my garden and I probably only need a tiny shed because the plot is only about 5min drive from my house. And I don't need anything big like fruit trees as I have some in my garden, so it's just basic growing space.

I agree with G4 - does sound expensive - but growing conditions on Guernsey must be good, maybe the crops you can raise will make worth every penny x

Hopefully it's a tad warmer in Guernsey so you should hopefully get some good crops , grow stuff that's expensive to buy so you get your money's worth.

Every bit of land is expensive on Guernsey! This is cheap compared to some of the other prices of allotment space

Hopefully the site will be cleared by the end of the year and I should be getting space next to my mum's bit It's well back from the road, so well hidden when I first went to view the site I wasn't quite sure whether I was going down the right lane or not

The soil should be good as well as it's an abandoned greenhouse site like our back garden, and our garden has wonderful soil...although unfortunately it's so good the weeds love it

Good luck with it and enjoy every minute

I seem to remember some conversations on square foot gardening from a while back. It might be appropriate in your situation. Makes the most of limited space. i am sure someone will be able to provide a link. i cant seem to find one in the search section.

Ah cool! Looks like that could be a good way to go. Anything to keep the weeding down with my back is a bonus I'm never quite sure how close I can plant things!
