  • Growing melons

On our plot we have decided to make an old shed frame-work into a greenhouse using polytunnel sheeting. Its a good size 8'x6. I would like to try to grow melons this year but have never attempted growing them before and would like any advice offered on methods and good varieties to try.

My favourite is Ogen at the moment.
I would recommend heating the greenhouse.

It might be worth having a look over this thread: http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ead.php?t=4965

Oh ok. I can easily start things off on my windowledge. Would I treat them as I would squashes?

Are you going to use the cold frame as like a giant cloche? It'd be worth a try.

I'm trying Sweetheart this year, as it's supposed to be good for growing outside - I haven't got a greenhouse (yet!).
Someone in my allotment site grew melons successfully last year outside, but I don't know what variety they were.
