Our apricot tree fruited for the first time last year since we bought the house 5 years ago. Can we expect a regular harvest now? (At least 2 metres of the trunk had been buried by some previous excavation work).

    2 metres

If it fruited last year, it should fruit again this year, however I am worried that the trunk is buried so deep, it means the graft is below ground and will mean that it will encourage suckers or reversion. Also, there is the high possibility of rot and decay getting in now.

You may have no choice in the long run but to excavate the soil out or worse still cut down the tree. However, stranger things have happened and just keep an eye on it.

Thanks Andrew - I'll keep fingers crossed. Unfortunately there is no way we can unearth the trunk without digging up a terrace so it's a case of que sera sera. Will let you know later this year! Sue.
