  • Steam Blanching

Help please, Has anyone used an electric "Steam Cooker" such as the Tefal Steam Cooker for blanching, before freezing. I normally use boiling water, but wonder if the cooker would do for small quantities of e.g. dwarf/runner beans, peas etc., where continuous picking rather than waiting for bulk would be better. Just hoping to save on the electric bill (first post from a "sleeping" member) Don.

If you want to save on the leccy then just don't blanche at all, I never bother and it's fine, in fact I think the veg stays crunchier.

Good to see you wake up, Don

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Steaming would be fine, but I don't bother blanching at all.

Thanks Friends, I used to blanch years ago, but stopped, then with all the bad press about food ailments I thought I would give it another try, but I'll keep to the old ways I think, it's less hastle. Thanks again for the input, Don.
