It's got the leaves of a Phlomis that's for sure......

the flowers are white/Lilac and the plant is about 3 foot highComment

It's got to be a Phlomis; we have Phlomis russeliana and love it to bits!
I haven't got time to check now, but have a google for pink purple Phlomis and see if one just like it comes up....
ETA: Piskie - it's got the tell tale bits that the bees dive under for the nectar; which the acanthis hasn't got.....

thanks have googled that, but still no luck.
they do look similar, but the leaves on mine are huge, the largest are 10inches longComment

It is a type of sage (I've caught the amnesia bug too!). Crush the leaves - they should smell lovely and aromatic.
Salvia sclarea var. turkestanica (google it for more photos)
