  • This is me.

Edited to say that i will more than likely start a blog so everything is all in one place. I didn't realise that what i had done would interest other people so much. I am chuffed to bits, thanks guys. I am going to find my feet first here then i will start one. *thumb*
    **********************************************************************
Hello everyone. I have dipped in and out over the last couple of years for bit i have been stuck on and finally decided to sign up here.

    My name is Sara.

    Right, where to start?

I have been growing my own veg for a couple of years now and have basically done it all on my own.

I am growing shallots, red onions, garlic, white onions, leeks, dwarf beans, parsnips, runner beans cucumbers, melons, tomatoes, various peppers, potatoes, salad, dwarf peaches, blueberry's, gooseberry and grape vines

I have a raised veg garden for the onions and dwarf beans. I have tried to keep everything neat and off the ground and so far, i have succeeded...

Never grown shallots before but they are looking good.

This is a pic of the other end. Leeks, parsnips and dwarf tender beans.

I have planted the leeks in tidy rows. Later on i will earth them up. I did not germinate enough parsnips but i have a few. The tender beans are great so i have more this year. I amusing the weed control fabric this year as the slugs and snails like them

I have been rigging up my greenhouse for cucumbers and melons. I have drilled into the floor and put vertical canes in.I have drilled holes in the canes and threaded wires connecting them together. last year i used canes tied together and it was a mess. I dont know if it will work but i hope so lol. It is still in progress but nearly done.

Here are/will be my runner beans. Again all the canes are in place with wire. I drilled the canes again so the structure is strong. I am a bit late with the beans this year.

here i have planted tomatoes, melons, peppers and potatoes in my car port. Its great using this as its very warm and protected from wind and its also something i can do in the rain.

The pots are in bags, they are very tall now and none have snapped!

Here is the other side of my carport. This is where my peppers are. I have them raised up so they have more sun.

You can see that the potatoes have canes in the bags to help keep them in order

                  Are you joking???

No way, just the garden. My house can be very chaotic but not my garden.

I have found melons easy to grow. I have Emir F1 and they are lovely!

I am growing a red and a green grape and this is the 3rd year. I am growing the grapes over my pergola on 4 cordons/canes but i am not sure what to do now. I had sweet red grapes last year on the lower part of the wine and i cut it back so that the canes had about 30 buds left. This took it to only half way across the pergola. This year i have grapes forming on laterals from the old stems.

The stems carrying the grapes are growing upright on top of the pergola(out of view). I have nipped out the tips of there laterals now but i dont know what else to do, any suggestions?

I forgot to mention carrots. I always do really well with carrots and only ever grow them in troughs in front of my green house. No stones equals no weird shaped carrots and never ever had carrot fly! I plant them in 4 rows in the troughs and usually have 4 on the grow at different stages. I have 2 growing now and am about to do a 3rd. I have just picked a few so as to thin them out and let the rest get bigger.

I know they are tiny but they are still early

This will do for now. I hope you enjoy my pics. I am pretty new to all this and am still learning so any advise would be great, thanks everyone
