  • White or Black Bryony - needed?

    Hi everyone,
can anyone help me!! I am after White or Black Bryony seeds or plants does anyone know where to find them?? I named my daughter Bryony 18 years ago and I would love to grow some of her namesake.

I've not heard of it in cultivation, but have seen red berried bryony growing wild in hedgerows as a child . I was always warned to avoid it as it is poisonous.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Ah, I wonder if that's what was growing on my old lotty site? It had red berries and certainly looked nasty

That about figures...that I would name my daughter after something poisonous!! She certainly seemed pionsonous when she was in her early teens!!!!!

If anyone knows of any that is growing anywhere and thinks they could get a cutting or sucker! Please let me know!

        Thanks

Sopho your best collect the seeds in autum. Wash all the pulp off the seed and plant out in trays to over winter. I grow them. Dioscorea_communis Plant them in well drained compost and let them twine up somthing. They are really a Yam so make a nice Tuber. all the plant is poison but you can boil and eat the tuber but I have never tried it.

One of the Gardens I 'do' is over-run with the darn stuff! I'll get you some seeds when they appear.
