  • Who Loves Spuds?

    Morning all,

I've just planted my first ever potatoes and I'm pretty excited about it! My dad gave me four spuds from his garden - but the draw back is...I have no idea what variety they are. I'm sure I'll find out eventually, but it got me thinking - what's your favourite potato variety?

We've designed an extra special poll where you can vote for what you love. It should be on the right hand side of this post -------> there

You just need to tick a box and email me, saying why this is your top choice. It would be GREAT if you all voted - it'd mean we'd be able to crown a reigning champion!

So...vote and tell us which spud you love

    Thanks
    Emma

I like Wilja's, you don't have them on your list.

I can't see a list either, but as it's my first year growing spuds (planted Pentland Javelin and Desiree) I don't yet have a favourite. Before I started growing, a spud was a spud. My varieties then were jacket spuds, baby spuds, normal spuds and tinned spuds ;o)

I voted for the heritage variety, British Queen!

Their water content is so low, that these potatoes roast and chip better than any other. This is not only through their texture, but their flavour too.

I haven't met anybody that we've made them for, that hasn't been instantly converted!

                  Regards

I honestly cannot choose just one variety - I have grown many different varieties over the years and have now a regular group of four or five (dependent on seed availablity) that I would consider superb and all for different reasons and cooking styles.
                    These would be
                    Lady Christl
                    British Queen
                    Edzell Blue
                    Foremost
                    Rooster
                    Rat

                    British by birth
Scottish by the Grace of God

Kestrel for me. It suits my taste, suits my soil, is slug resistant and and is a moderate cropper of good sized, clean potatoes with shallow eyes!

Thank you all so much for voting Keep 'em coming if you've not ticked a box yet!

To vote, you just need to look to the right hand side of this thread...and scroll back up to the top. There's a badge that had lots of potatoes on it...just click on that and the voting form should appear

If anyone wants any varieties added to the list...please email me (emma.ward@aceville.co.uk).

                        Thanks!

I'm a little disillusioned about GYO polls. If you get Charlotte, Kestrel and Golden Wonder as the top 3 you'll then put in quotations from here about some spud hardly anyone's voted for. You've got form!

A little more help is needed to find the badge/poll/list. The only thing I can see on the right is shopping partners and I'm not keen to click on Dremel!
It then drifts into pale greeness?

                            Sorry just not seeing it
