  • New Kid on the Plot!

    Hello All.

I am competely new to this, both gardening (if thats what you call it) and forums.
I decided to try and dig up a patch of my tired garden and plant some veggies to ease the credit crunch burden this year. The problem is I don't have a scooby what I am doing!!! So hopefully there will be plenty of advice from you fine planters!!
I don't really know how I found this forum to be honest, as I don't really do internet. I have been encouraged to time and time again by friends, who tell me that it is a good way to meet people when you are as backward in coming forward as I am (if you catch my drift).
Anyway, I am born and raised in Sunny Stoke on Trent, and wouldn't consider leaving, unless one of the two loves in my life relocated. But moiving a football stadium and all of that clubs fans to suit my relocation plans seems optimistic to me!!!!

Well thats it for now. Hope to get to know some of you soon.

Hi Seedplanter and a warm welcome to the vine. Everyone on here is very friendly and helpful, so don't be afraid to ask questions - we are all still learning anyway

Now you've started using the internet there'll be no stopping you!

Have a good growing season, what are you planning to grow?

Hi there- and welcome to the Vine!

I think you've accidentally fallen onto the most friendly site I've ever visited.
Don't worry about asking questions- we're all here to learn from each other...just ask away!

If you've a quiet few hours/days...pull up a chair and a huge mug of tea/coffee/beer/wine and read old posts.
There's a search button at the top of the page and just type in whatever you're interested in and start reading. There are some exceptionally interesting posts on here- from very simple advice to stuff you'd otherwise learn only after years of experience.

My one tip for all starters is get your soil sorted.

Welcome to the Vine from me too seedplanter.

Choose where you dig your plot carefully, somewhere with lots of sun and no nearby shrubs or trees which will compete with your veg for the nutrients and moisture from the soil.

        Glad you've joined us.

Hi seedplanter and welcome. A useful idea is to check the thread "What I did Today" which will give you an idea when to tackle garden jobs and when to sow your seeds. Best of luck. Gardening should come with an addiction warning (as should this forum!)

Welcome to the vine seedplanter - all the other grapes have said it all, really!
Ooh, one thing - the next thing you need to learn is how to upload digital photos of your garden and growing onto your computer and post them on here! Then you can get advice about any aspect you choose to post about and we can all admire your hard work!
              Nosy - who, me??
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

                    Hi and welcome Seedplanter.
Good luck with your new addiction, I hope everything works out well for you.
Ask away, all questions answered. Everyone is very friendly and helpful here.
We all know each others business as there are general chat threads too, where we moan and laugh about everything going on in our lives. So it is not just about gardening. Have a good root around and see what there is to be had here.
