chilli for tomato?

G'Day Taff and greetings from Down Under!

I would love to grow out your Facing Heaven Sichuan/Szechuan chilli. Could you tell us your source of this variety, and provide a URL for more information if possible.

My tomato collection is around 350-strong, and includes more than a dozen black tomato varieties:

Black
Black Aisberg
Black from Tula
Black Krim
Black Mavr (a plum type)
Black Russian
Black Sea Man
Black Star
Brad's Black Heart
Huge Black
Japanese Trifele Black
Roger's Best Black

Let me know which varieties you might want and we can go from there. Do you have anything else to trade?

They're from a friend, I have no idea where he got them from though sorry.
I'm not much of a chilli head, so I've only got some saved seed from the tabasco chilli he gave me and some lemon drop chilli saved seed [not sure how that's going to grow, the seeds don't look very good to me]
I'm sending half of what I have to someone else, but you're welcome to half of what I have left, about 20 seeds I think, roughly.
I'd love some japanese trifele or black krim or mavr if possible.
Not sure what else you'd be interested in? Exotic stuff or just different varieities of vegetables?
Have a few squash/courgette type seeds, serpente de sicilia, turks turban,burgess vine, yellow courgettes, tromboncino, or beans- dwarf purple or yellow, climbing yellow, cherokee trail of tears, or tomatoes- costoluto,san marzano, san marzano versuvio, cuor di bue, riesentomtate, weird looking things, santa cherry plum, scorzonera and scorzobianca, saltwort.

Yes, sure, I'd love to send you the black tomatoes you have selected. I'll also include seeds of Black Cherry, as I forgot to add them to the list when I keyed it up. I'll also include Brad's Black Heart as it was outstanding for me in our brutally hot climate so I figure it should do well in cooler climes as well.

We can PM each other from now on so we won't block up this thread any more. You do have some other things of interest to me from what you listed. It's always good to swap a few things rather than just one. We get more value for money from the postage that way!

That is scaremongering by our quarantine people, Taff, so don't be put off by it. Of the vegetable seeds coming out of the UK only peas, beans and corn are banned. To comply with the rules all seed packets must be labeleled with the botanical name. This is because they have a data base which they check. As you can see in Table 1 in this link all garden chilli species are allowed entry into Australia. Import Conditions Database - ICON - AQIS

Seems like you're in luck,the facing heaven chilli is apparently a Capsicum frutescens L. var. conoides which is on the list of capiscums allowed to be imported

That's it, Taff. If our quarantine folks had their way no seeds of any sort would enter the country! The only problem for them is that they have to comply with the law and the law stipulates which seeds are allowed entry, and they hate it! LOL

Their underhand, overbearing, officious approach with everybody has meant they are feared and derided by all. A couple of years ago we had an epidemic of equine influenza (horse flu) in the country because their own staff did not do their jobs properly when they allowed an infected horse from Japan to be released into the community. It resulted in billions of dollars of lost revenue for the racing and breeding industry. It was no surprise that after the inquiry the head of Australia's Quarantine Service quit his job. The buck stopped with him!

Yet, instead of doing what they are paid to do, and address the issues of greatest risk, they continue to give home gardeners across the country a hard time when they bring in permitted seeds. Do you get what I am on about? And, they always prevail against home gardeners as they are ever so powerful and we don't have the resources to challenge them thru the courts. It just isn't worth our while. That aside, I didn't shed any tears when the CEO of AQIS got the tap on the shoulder from the government and was forced to quit!

I have a couple of Aussie friends here at the moment. She is a keen gardener and, knowing my penchant for semi-tropicals and exotics wanted to bring me a few native Australian seeds over. She was told that she couldn't bring them without an export licence. And I thought that Australia's 'toughest customs in the world' rules were simply to stop disease being imported. Maybe they don't want to export disease either?

When it comes to sending/bringing in seeds from Oz to other countries our quarantine folks have no say as each country has the right to determine what can be brought in and what cannot. Yet another example of our quarantine folks trying to brow-beat anyone they can! They have a lot to answer for. If it wasn't so serious it would be funny!
