  • Strawberry plants have arrived...

in the post this morning, luckily I have the day off work so I've been straight up the allotment to plant them straightway as they were bare-rooted and worried about them drying out. Found a permanent patch that wasn't too wet so they should be ok.

I ordered 12 plants of a variety called Marshmello as my son liked the name. I've said he can have the strawberries to look after as he loves to eat them, though it might get him interested.

Marshmello are delicious, I grow mine in old bins and they do well, plenty of runners and easy to keep, give them a good feed of potash now. Glad your son takes an interest, learn young and it does stay with you.

Up until this year I only grew marshmello Bex and agree with everything Andrewo says, a cracking strawberry. I am adding aromel this year as its an everbearer and I want to stretch out the strawberries and cream season.
