  • Saved Leek Seeds!

Hi all, when we took over our plot last autumn we had quite a few lleks that had gone to seed and produced some fantastic seed heads (see the piccy's below, the first one is the seed heads in the greenhouse, the trough is full of them! The second one is of the seed heads in situ, before they were harvested, you can see them just in front of my MINI Cooper! The last piccy shows them again, when we first found them, on beginning to clear that bed!), well, we took the heads off when we were clearing that area, and now have quite a few leek seeds that are going spare!

I'm afraid we've no idea of variety, but they seem to be viable, some of the seeds that dropped off when we were harvestig them are already growing now!

If anyone would like some seeds, then give us a shout, and we'll let you have some! We arent looking for swaps, as we've got most of the seeds we need, and have been offered some of the ones we were still seeking from other grapes, so in passing these leek seeds on we are just seeking to return the favours we've already had from other grapes!!

    Hi Mrs D,

I would be interested in some Leek seeds. I don't know how to send a private message but I think I could manage to reply to one.

Hi all that are after the saved leek seeds, well, Mr D spent a coupke of hours last night removing the seed pods (and seeds) from about half of the seed heads we've got saved, looks like there's going to be a lot mnore than I figured, so prepare yourselves to be innundated with Leek seeds! We've written out the envelopes, and Mr D is going to post them out tomorrow, should be somewhere in the region of 500 or so seeds each, with plenty spare if anyone else wants any!

                  Hi,
I would be grateful of some leek seeds if you have any left.
I have a leek that looked as though it was going to flower, but I think it got too cold before it did as the flower head is still sat in it's green wrapper.
                  Thanks

Oooh, thank you Mrs Dobby, a huge quantity of leek seeds arrived in the post this morning. Will get planting - in fact we could probably start up a leek ranch if they all germinate!

Got mine today too, bigger than I thought. I was expecting little black onion seeds. These are the leeks aren't they? I think it's a Manchester postmark.

                        cheers

Thanks for letting us know they've arrived safetly everyone!

The seeds are the small black bits (about 2mm by 1mm) inside the outer larger seed casings (the seed casings are the browny / grey round shrivelled things that are about 3 or 4 mm across), and each seed casing has somewhere in the region of 3 or 4 seeds inside it!

Glad the quantities are ok, I had a feeling there'd be a hundred or so each, but on stripping the seed heads there was a lot more than we'd originally thought!

Anyone else that wants some, stocks are now running lower, but PM me and we'll send what we can spare!
                            Blessings
