  • Compost Question

Hi Guys, wishing you all a Happy New Year!

Can I put the contents of the budgie cage (poo, old seed, millet stalks and sandpaper) on the compost heap, I know I can do this with the rabbit cage but just wondered about the budgie.

    Thanks!
    Bex

Not sure about the sandpaper - depends on the sort of glue I guess but the rest would be OK. Some of the seed might start to sprout but it should be OK.

p.s. Don't put the Budgie in it though

Don't see why not, as for the glue on the sandpaper, it can't be toxic or they wouldn't sell it for budgie cages, would they? I would either tear it into smallish bits or shred it, though. As for sprouting seeds, I get them all the time on the lawn from the bird feeders, they are easy to pull up

Thanks Nick, I think I'll leave the sandpaper out but put the rest in.

Lay the sandpaper in your runner bean or sweet pea trench and add Budgie turds on top and add compost.

By all means put it on the compost heap but you'll will have to keep an eye out for the Police!

Hemp used to be used in budgie seed and I can remember being at my Uncle's when I was a kid and seeing strange plants emanate from where my Gran had tipped the bird cage droppings!
I didn't know what they were then, but I know now that it resembled marujana!

They have probably changed the mixture of seeds so hopefully it will be ok!

The Hemp seed grown or contained with Budgie and Bird seed is not the variety you can smoke. It is the variety grown commercialy for Rope or plumbing materials.

That makes it sound like you've tried - to make a rope, obviously!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I have a botany degree so I can talk from experience in field trials, The Smoking Hemp is almost tropical hence the greenhouse growing techniques undertaken by growers. The Rope Hemp grows outside with no problem whatsoever.
