  • Rowan berries and rhubarb?

    I've noticed the rown baerries are out so intend pickung some. Will also be picking some rhubarb and also a few Jalapeno's and shallots!

    Any ideas what preserves to make with them either collectively or individually?

    Rowan Jelly is the only thing I've come across with rowanberries in it.. I'll have a look in Food for Free, see if there's anything different in that. Rowan Jelly with Chilli might be interesting though..

      And for the sweeter toothed - Rowan and Rhubarb jelly. Rhubarb makes a brilliant (in both senses of the word) jelly - I made Rhubarb and Orange a couple of weeks back. The Rhubarb at this time of year has more flavour for jelly too. The younger shoots are very bland once the solids are strained out.

        Last year, Rowan Jelly was by far my best selling preserve at the Farmers Markets - cause you cannot get it in the shops. I will be making loads in the very near future. I've also come across a recipe for Rowanberry Chutney so might give that a go, though my versin of HFW's Glutney Chutney is proving a big hit and I have a monumental glut of courgettes to get through

          Hi Rat, hope all going well.....what recipe do oyu use for Rowan Jelly? Is it the one in HFW book by any chance?
