  • New apple trees, and an some mature fruit trees.

Hi folks, first post, although I've been getting some great tips off of here for a few weeks now.

I planted 2 apple trees in the back garden back in the spring, both 2 years old IIRC. The Katy is flying, although I took quite a lot of the apples off before they developed, to allow the roots to establish themselves, I left one on each branch, and they look great, was this the right thing to do?.

The other tree is a self pollinating cox's orange, and theres no fruit on it at all!?, anything to worry about?.

Sorry to ask even more, but I have 4 other fruit trees in the garden, 2 pears (conference and Beth), one damson tree and one victoria plum tree, should I be feeding them?.

Much appreciated and looking forward to spending more time in the garden (and in here!).

    Greg.

You have done well to get fruit on a two year old apple tree.

Leaving the odd apple on a branch will not do any harm. If the tree does not like it it will drop the fruit. A good root system and branch system is best before the tree fruits.

I like to put a handfull for bone meal on each tree, sprinkled about the stem about six inches away. Then some manure a bit later in the year.
