  • new potatoes - how long to boil?

i'm the first to admit i'm rubbish at cooking (last week i had to ask the grapes how to do poached eggs )

so.. how long do new potatoes take to boil? i'm cooking the first of my own grown today but don't want everything else to be ready while the tatas aren't cooked

Oooer, seems like everyone's vanished, somehow I have problems with new tatties I've grown cause they split on cooking, anyways get pan boiling and then drop them in, about 15-20 mins depending on size

I always steam mine. Don't worry if they are ready early, they are just as yummy cold after all

steam or boil, plunge into boiling salted water, 10-12 mins depending on size, steam for 12-15 mins, you will know when they are done, a thin knife goes through easily
Eat well, live well, drink moderately and be happy (hic!)

I've given up boiling, because the skins split.
A steam for 30 mins does me.

The first pan full, I cooked the same way I do with shop bought ones and they disintegrated. The second pan I did for only 5 mins and they broke apart. The last pan full I steamed over the carrots and they were just right. Today's I steamed for 20 mins and they were a bit over done but still edible. Lesson learnt... don't expect them to cook as shop bought ones. Trial and error is a wonderful thing.
