    Advice needed on planting

    Hi,
    My thrid bed on my first allotment plot is being dug and the size will be 8 x 4 feet. I was planning to not add any manure or FBB and grow the following -

    Raddish
    Carrots
    Beetroot
    Spinach - 2 varieties
    Blood Sorrel
    Garlic
    shallots 2 types
    parsnips

    Is there any plating advice that you can provide i.e. have I got the combination of planting right for soil with no manure/fertilizer? in what order should I plant these, if the bed size is good enough to plant all these? Will I have space to plant other plants.

    Also is it ok to plants the seeds thinly so as to avoid thinning, also that way I can use less seeds and save them for the following year too.

    Really you need to keep each family member in the same place so i have been told,Plants within the same group tend to have the same requirements and suffer from the same pests and problems,and another link Vegetable Families or Groups for Crop Rotation Planning.

    starving our plants of nutrients is not going to produce good results

      Thanks for the links, my reason for sowing alle ones I metioned together was beacuse I read somewhere that these plants don't like rich soil. I'll have a rethink using the links u have sent me.

        Carrots and parsnips don't want rich soil, you have that correct
        The garlic and shallots will be happy enough with a bit of BFB sprinkled around them.
        Spinach, I'm not so sure of, but as they are leafy, you could use a bit of chicken manure pellets raked into the soil before planting. Should be easy enough to keep it to the areas of the bed you need to then, without it affecting the carrots and parsnips.
