  • What is Eating My Chili Pepper

    Hi
Can anyone help me here? I just started planting my own herbs and veggies in pots.. i have noticed that my chili pepper doesn't produce chilis anymore and the leaves are starting to have yellow spots on them. I checked over and saw white tiny insects underneath the leaves which by research i found out was whiteflies. I tried spraying them with soap + oil + water mixture just today.. i will see how this will work..

I also noticed black very tiny oval shaped like eggs underneath the leaves .. can anyone tell me what are these and if these are harmful to my pepper plant?.. The whiteflies have infested my bell pepper plants too..

This info will probably be useful for you: Royal Horticultural Society - Advice: Aphids

I presume you are in the northern hemisphere if so personally I would get rid of the chilli/pepper plants and start again. You have still got time to plant new chili and bell peppers from seed. Last year I didn't actually plant any seeds until now. (Go over to the seed swap and see if anyone is giving them away.) Otherwise go and buy new seedlings.

I would plant lots of marigolds near you peppers/chilli as they attract hoverflies who eat aphids. Last year I planted lots of different marigolds because I like the flower I didn't realise until afterwards they would have such a beneficial affect.

Whitefly are a real nuisance - they are infesting my indoor pelargoniums at the moment. I am squishing and washing the leaves under the tap.
