  • Advice needed - Pear Tree

We have a pear tree in our garden which is frankly too large for the garden OH doesnt want to get rid of it from the garden because I thought it might be a good idea to take too the allotment anyhoo it does need a good prune once we have harvested the feast of pears but what I wanted to know is would it be possible to use some of the pruning to make a new tree?? if so any ideas on how to go about it??

Sadly this is not really an option. Pears (and most other tree fruits) are grafted on to a rootstcok which controls the size and one or two other things of the tree. Pears do not really root from cuttings. It is almost impossible to buy 1 rootstock and graft a piece of your tree on to it. If you could find a sucker from a pear tree then you could have a go. Grafting fuit trees is not that hard.

Thanks Palustris that answers a question that I kept forgetting to ask.
