  • B&Q dwarf cherry tree?

I was wandering around B&Q this afternoon and they had a dwarf cherry tree for £17, which I very nearly bought but didn't in the end because I had never heard of the variety and the label didn't say if it was self-fertile or not... And £17 is a lot for another plant! The variety was called either Piedmont or Piermont - I'm not sure which one - it was definitely that, I just can't remember if it was an R or a D in the middle! Does anyone know anything about that type of cherry? I googled it and looked through my gardening books but have come up with nothing...

I'm kinda wishing I had bought it anyway as there were only two left and it looked very healthy (and I got a dwarf peach from there last year and it's currently covered in blossom and looking gorgeous!) Thinking a return trip might be in order this weekend, but I would like to know something about that type of cherry before I pour money down the drain, especially if I'm going to need a pollinator as well!

My advice? Nip into your nearest Tesco. They're doing self fetile cherry trees for 7 quid. Mine is potted up as I live in military housing and cant plant a tree.

Its doing great - Plus I will be keeping it small!

I bought a dwarf cherry tree from B&Q last year, sorry no name on it. It has grown on really well in a large planter and is currently smothered in beautiful blossom. I'm hoping it is self fertile as my other cherry tree is only just budding!

I used a large rubber trug that i bought from tesco for 3 bucks. I'd say it'd hold about 30 litres!

I'm afraid I just couldn't help myself - I accidentally ended up in B&Q today, and it was the last one sitting there all on it's lonesome so I bought the cherry tree! They're doing a 10% off thing at the moment, so it wasn't quite as bad!

Shazull - I have a 60cm pot that I'm going to put mine in... I've got a dwarf stella cherry and a dwarf peach planted in 40cm pots and they seem to be doing fine!

The tree is a Piermont cherry, by the way. I'd still love to know if anyone knows anything about that type!

                Hi all

I also succumbed to the b&q trap and bought a piermont cherry tree. Hunted high and low and couldn't find any information. So I contacted b&q. Apparently the tree is self in-fertile. Apparently the b&q expert has said leave it for the first year and it may fruit. If not you will need to get another variety. Other than that have no more information about the variety. Only seems to exist in b&q world!!!

I can't for the life of me find the link, but I found a german site that says the tree is self-fertile. Mine has got a bit of blossom on it now, so I guess we'll wait and see!

I work in the B&Q garden centre Welsh girl. I don't know much about this variety so i'd advise you to go for a sunburst or some other tree that we really KNOW will fruit in a year or so.

                    Just my opinion.

Ive got a stella chery tree in a pot that I bought as a bare rooted plant 2 years ago for £3.99 from Aldi!
I had one cherry last year (which the birds got!) and this is it now.......full of blossom and only 6 foot high!
You can't see the pot in the photo but it's plastic and about 15 inches diameter!

Bad experience with my Piedmont dwarf cherry from B&Q, bought in February. Now the leaves are affected by what looks like a mosaic virus type infection. Would not bother again, when I can get disease-free trees elsewhere cheaper.
