  • Cardboard ground cover

Having covered part of my plot with cardboard to suppress weed growth I am now clearing. THe card has, if not rotted down, gone soft and soggy. Should I incorporate this into compost or just dig in? Thanks

We dug ours in. Most of it had rotted down nicely though and fell to pieces as soon as a spade turned it over.

Yes, dig it in; it will rot in the ground if it hasn't already, but not, of course any packing tape, staples, plastic labels and so on

If you just leave cardboard or newspaper on the surface it takes longer to rot as it keeps getting wet then drying out You need to cover it with a layer of soil, compost or manure to keep it wet and in contact with the soil so the bugs and worms can get at it
