  • Groundsel Help! How to get rid of it?

We've just been offered a half share in a local allotment. There is a concrete path down the middle and on one side there is groundsel on the other there isn't.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it easily or is it a matter of digging carefully so that we get all the roots out. I've heard it can be very invasive.

As we'd like to grow as much veg organically as possible is there anything we can use to speed up the process and that would kill it off permanently. I know that may not be possible but could do with some advice.

    Any suggestions?

Groundel is an easy weed to eradicate just pull it out and the roots will come with it. Along with chickweed, it's supposed to be a sign of fertile land!

Thanks to you both. We're going to clear it this weekend. Glad to hear it's a sign of fertile land. The lad we're sharing with has had it for 4 years but he's too busy to look after it. So we're doing the pretty bits and he's doing the heavy duty digging etc.

Groundsel floats on the breeze like dandelion. It reduces if there are not many patches nearby on neglected plots and if you never let it seed. A good weeding regime will make a big difference....it it poisonous so wear gloves - don't pick your nose etc!
