    allotments in Ayrshire

    HI Nomad,
As far as I'm aware, there are 3 allotment sites in South Ayrshire. One in Troon, one in Alloway, and one other.
    Not sure about North Ayrshire.
I'd love to get one going in my village which is Dalrymple (in East Ayrshire). There's certainly quite a bit of council owned land here which is doing very little and, according to the council's own land-use manifesto, it should be getting used for the benefit of the local populace.
I have my eye on a particular site - faces SSW on a gentle slope, under grass with few weeds, fairly flat, sheltered, near the River Doon, good access, parking etc.
Sounds a bit too good to be true - and probably is.
Look at the SAGS website for some good info (Scottish Allotments and Gardens Society)

to paul78,irvine council stated a couple of years ago that they had been open to providing allotments, but no one was interested, that was the first i had heard about it as they had seemed to keep the offer very quiet until a self-imposed time limit expired,so the meeting in the volunteer rooms should be interesting,to say the least.i hope to get down there.what time does this meeting start?

            Hello all

Hi there - same with me Buffs, first I heard about the previous council consultation was when I read that they hadn't had enough interest to proceed.

It's only by luck I heard about the meeting on Wednesday - I haven't seen anything in the local press etc. I'll try to get along on Wednesday, it'll probably need a big turnout to get the council moving.

                Hi bigdog,

Where in Ayrshire are you? There's an allotment site up the back of West Kilbride, about half a mile before Blackshaw Farm.
