    Advice needed for tunnel/greenhouse purchase.

    hello guys

    I'm currently hunting down options for buying my first greenhouse/tunnel. Is it true that tunnels tend to be cheaper to buy but the covering will only last 5 years? If that's true then how much is a new cover?

    The other thing is that i don't want to spend a fortune and would appriciate any ideas on where to pick one up a 2nd hand. On the other hand if someone is looking to sell one then please PM me!

    As for the site I'm hoping to errect the greenhouse on my new allotment and then plant into the soil/pots

    The covers for tunnels are indeed quite cheap.
    My tunnel is 24ft x 60ft and a new cover cost me £275.00 This was not the cheapest cover as I opt for the anti fog treated polythene to cut out condensation. Given the actual size of the sheet (1600 square ft) the cost is about 17p per square ft.
    As regards lifespan, most manufacturers state 5 years but you could get a lot more - depends on site (how exposed are you) and accidental damage.
    You will get a lot more growing space for your mioney with a tunnel but if you only have a small area available, a greenhouse might be a better long term option.

      Our e-cycle (local version of freecycle) regularly has greenhouses in. Keep an eye out on yours to see if anyone is giving away a greenhouse.
