Freezer full!

I know the feeling, just said to my oh the other day we needed a bigger one, but again feeling smug about my crops.

whats the strangest thing anyone has frozen?

I froze a Fulmar once. Well, I managed to persuade someone else to do it for me as I didn't have a freezer at the time.

We're keeping an eye on Freecycle to see if theres a little under-counter freezer going... would like one to pop in the garage and keep all frozen crops in...

I froze my wedding bouquet - don't know if that counts as strange though.

I came back from 6 months in America just before last Christmas to find that my upright freezer had froze it's last - yucky doesn't describe it!! Sadly haven't replaced it yet as no spare funds were to hand and the washing machine (which also died early this year) was more urgent!!

Now having to eat everything fast or make it into stuff which will store - anyone got a recipe for tomato wine?

TRy other methods like pickles, jams, etc. Ran out of room in freezers and had to resort to this way. Mind you, the cupboards are now full so will have to store some "in" my friends and family :-)

Hi OWG,

A Fulmar is a type of North Atlantic petrel, related to the Albatraosses of the south seas. They are very long lived (50+ years), nest on cliffs and if you get too close they will projectile puke at you. Don't get it on your clothes, you'll reek of fish oils for years after, doesn't matter how many times you wash it out. The fulmar for the freezer was found dead and destined for a research project down south. I wrapped it well with black bags first. Ah, the life of a Birdie Wife in Orkney. Happy days.

I absolutely will not make tomato chutney - it is my most horrid childhood memory!! The house stank for days after! Possibly the problem is due to me being allergic to tomatoes and unable to eat them

Actually, bugs ate most of my crops before I got to them this year - it has been a steep learning curve! Next year I will be armed with all sorts of eco friendly armaments!! I was very cross at watching my cauliflowers grow then spending 2 hours digging out all the critters!! In the end we gave up as nobody fancied the cauli any more! Have had better success with spuds in buckets, dwarf french beans and now have some peas growing nicely - pods just starting to fill out - so looking forward to some of those soon.

Must get into the garden and pick the brambles though - want to have a go at making bramble jelly - hope it's not too hard as I have never tried before.

Sounds like a nice thing to have in your freezer Birdie Wife!!! So long as you warned everyone it was in there!

Eek! Was wondering if it was a kind of strange fruit....

I've had dead rats, mice and baby chicks in the freezer (snake food and pet rats who were waiting to be buried...)

Actually I thought if I told the person whose freezer it was that it was a fulmar they'd never let me use it! So I told them it was a seagull instead...

Hehehe... my OH went ballistic when he realised the top shelf of our freezer was full with mice and chicks (my sisters freezer had broken, so we kept the snake food for her)

strangest thing I ever had in my freezer was...........garlic flavoured choc ices!

guess who'd stored some garlic next to the choc ices??? didnt realise till I served them to our guests!

you don' want to know that they said!
