I've had a wormery for years.Never had a problem with smell but i have it down the bottom of the garden .It doesnt attract flies either as it has a tight fitting lid.

My wormery is right by the back door so it's easy to put stuff in even when the weather is pants. Sometimes get fruit flies in summer but that's only when I've let it get a bit acidic and they only come out when I open the lid. Basically unless you've done something wrong (and they are really easy) then it won't smell or anything - get one, they're great.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

          Hi Sue
Do not pay for an expensive wormery, most of them are hand made (even the well known makes)! You can easily make one yourself from storage boxes, buy three boxes drill 6 holes in two of them and put greenhouse shading in the 2nd box. Lay the 2nd box on the first box and then start to add waste snap on lid, when that is full add the 3rd box and replace lid. There are a couple of places on ebay that sells wormery instructions for less the £1.00, I have bought all of them and they are well worth the money for the info they give, which includes where to buy the components and worms, the wormey can easily be made for under £10.00. Just type in wormery on the search to get the info. Wormerys take approx 3 months to get going so do not expect instant results, you will be more than happy when you do get the results. Wormerys do not smell as you only dispose of organic matter (do not put dog or cat poo in). They can attract fruit flies in the summer, but these do not cause a problem. Good luck
