Silly questions on behalf of myself and hubby:

    1) What do you do with your chutneys? What do you eat them with? We made a tomato one, and envisage courgette/pumpkin ones being made this season.

    2) What do you do with crab apple jelly? Again, what do you eat them with?

    chutney

I eat mine with pork pie cold meats cheese in sandwiches. I made the best tomato chutney last year with all the last bits of veg left in the garden. it was terrific but please do not ask me for the recipe as i can not remember what I put in it.

Not a silly question Multiveg, I went as far as having made some rhubarb chutney and had no idea what I was going to do with it

Got plenty of recipes, what with a couple of WI books, and recipes from other gardening messageboards. Its what you do with them - jam I would put on toast. Chutneys - dips?

Mmmm Multiveg crab apple jelly reminds me of my childhood - my mum used to make loads of it, some plain, some with ginger. Don't know what everyone else would do but we had it on toast or bread like jam. Those were the days - jam butties for tea! Unfortunately she killed the tree when pouring weed killer on the patio
Your post makes me want to get a tree myself - it was one of my favourite things as a child...enjoy!

Crab apple jelly I guess you'd have it with meat (bit like Redcurrant jelly) never had any myself I know rowan and apple jelly is nice with wood pigeon.

Chutneys are great with cold meats, pork pie, game pie etc or on the good old sarnie. or you could have it a s a starter with a few poppadoms like in an Indian resturant.

How about as an accompneyment to good old bangers & mash!!!

I'm like Bibliobeck - crab apple jelly, rowan jelly - all went on pieces when I was a kid. Still does, but now also goes with meat - especially gamey meat.
