  • Friday Puzzle...

    A little puzzle for you to ponder - I am addicted to these now - thanks to Professor Layton's Curious Village.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    A father and son are chatting when the son poses this question...
    "Dad, I'm 22 now, but just how old are you?"
    The father replies..."You want to know how old I am, eh? Tell you what - I'm as old as your age plus half of my age."
    How old is the father?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Good luck....
    I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

    If i have understood the question, I would say that the father is 44. 22 plus half of 44 equals 44. Trouble is that seems too easy.

            I reckon 44, smart son says it could be anything, pretty sure its not 66 though?

            i hate these things, no good at math.

            22 + half dads age?
            22 + 1/2 44 = 44
            22+ 1/2 66 = 55
            22 + 1/2 88 = 66

            is it just me or is something wrong with the question?

              Very interesting quzzel! Based on the information given and making no assumptions, the father's age is 22 plus half his own, therefore:
              22+(1/2)22=
              22+11= 33? Sounds crazy!! But could he be a stepdad??

                cannot work it out myself either,
                sons age 22 + half of fathers,----the final figure WILL depend on what the age is,so can be anything,but
                mmm,half of my age,as in the person repeating the tale,so it will come out different most times anyway ????
                that is all i can come up with.
                so is that the answer and not an actuall sum/figure/age ?

                  It can't be 'anything' because (if I read the question correctly) the figure you half ie. the fathers age must be the same as the figure you end up with when added to the son's age because that figure is supposed to be the fathers age.

                  Does that make sense?

                      That's how I read it too Snuffer. so I think your initial answer of 44 must be the right one. The age which you half (?), MUST be the same number as (half + 22) = ?
