  • Starting to panic

I am always easy going but I realised when I woke up at 4am this morning that I am starting to worry about christmas, and wont sleep properly till its over. We dont buy in much extra food just enough for visitors, christmas day 6 or 8 of us ( 2 not sure if they are going to her mums ) for dinner and supper, just got veg to get or pick, supper to decide what to have. Boxing day just the three of us but have had invite to nieces, Saturday 11 of us for late lunch/tea ( its cheaper than doing two meals ) havent got a clue what to do so havent bought any food for it. Started wrapping presents ( yay ) but still have a few to get trouble is cash has run out till wednesday

Bit like me in that I've not been able to go shopping- no transport, no shops and a broken foot!

Sooo...what I've done is make a list of what I'm going to buy - and from where ( mostly the same shops so I don't have to walk about too much)

If you leave the shopping until Wednesday you'll be fine- just plan ahead and don't waste time wandering about. Just make sure everything else is sorted!

Even my food shopping is listed as if I'm wandering through the shop!

food trolley dash...2 supermarkets for everything should take a morning if i don't leave it till too late. ( and then I can start on the pressies!)

Don't lose sleep over it...I'm awake anyway so I'll worry for you!

see....I can be organised if push come to shove!!

I'm not sure why but this Christmas panic thing has always passed me by - as I said in another thread - it is just a larger version of the Sunday Roastie - well, that's how I view it.

I do think there is too much pressure 'out there' to have everything 'perfect' on the day - rather like a wedding.

Try to relax and remember - worrying is paying a debt before it is due*

              Yep- it's yr age

...it'll be here and gone before you know it- you can't possibly get it all perfect, so try and enjoy yourself- you can always ask your guests to buy in a few things to help you prepare...and you'll pay them back on .....WEDNESDAY!!!!!!( YEY!!!...there's the end ofpart of the problem!)

well thats the way we have looked at it this year, shops are only closed for the day, we have no family coming, so what is all the fuss about?
I just hate feeling stressed and it lasts until i have got everything, which HAS to be xmas eve due to getting it as fresh as possible

Don't panic ... it's just a roast dinner, with tinsel on

Allotment soup will feed a lot of people ... have a big vat of it bubbling on the stove, and some baguettes (I've cheated and got long-life ones in the cupboard for emergency guests)

With no presents wrapped yet and still a fair few to buy, plus most of the non-allotment grown food still to organise I could panic. But then I remember this time last year and things were just the same and everything was wonderful in the end.

We are finishing present shopping tomorrow. Food shopping I'll do on Tues, with a list and an mp3 switched on so I can get what I need and get home without noticing my surroundings too much with any luck.
Bugger of it is, I need to do my normal monthly shop (with a few extra treats) and whatever shop I go to, its going to be daft

I should have added that I've had some very good wine in for weeks, so at least I'm getting my priorities right.

I KNOW that all will be fine, everything will get done and we'll all have a brilliant time. Most years I've mainly got it under control and make lists. This year I've also done the head in the sand thing and then moved straight to frozen brain stage - I can't even think what has to be done. Got into a right state this morning - ended up with chest pains. Went out at lunchtime and did the random shopping thing - just picking up likely looking presents with no one in particular in mind - I've never been this bad before. Perhaps there's something in the air down here in the South West Jackie! There will be 20 to cater for on Boxing Day - and really I can't wait, I love it when we all get together, but the lead up to Christmas. . .count me out.

finally got my act together and did all the local cards, will deliver tomorrow.

just half a dozen presents to ignore now.

Passes me by too but then again I didn't get remotely stressed about my wedding either. The way I see it is that if people are coming then they should be coming to see you not your perfect table decoration or whatever. If they're not coming for the right reasons then that's their problem and certainly not your fault.

PS - in a really good mood at the moment as just been hand delivered my first proper Christmas present which was a single hyacinth bulb in a little plastic pot - doesn't sound much but it was planted up by my friend's little girl which I thought was lovely although it will set of OH's hay fever.......

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
