please can anyone offer any advice,13th august just gone,i purchased a good garden fork £20,i really looked after it,any how i noticed after digging up the rest of the spuds, that the prongs were out off line,i have not been able to return it until yesterday, they will NOTgive me my money back, only a credit note,i even offered to pay more for a better one still, but they could not oblidge, also the company concerned was no longer trading, this place is a local old style farmers type ironmongery,i was tolled the only forks they get returned are those for re-shafting,very obviouse i was not believed, what the hell did he emagine i had been doing with it,they only have 1 thing in the shop that i would want now,and that is chicken wire,he was very avaisive when i started asking prices ext, saying that he could not give me a price now as things are still going up,i made him show me what he got in NOW,it turns out to be ideal just what i want,50 mtr roll apro 1 mtr high,£50/£55 pounds plus vat,so are sleeping on it for now, however i have been doing some thinking and have 2 questions to ask of someone please,

1 is it leagle for them to only offer me credit{there is no mention on the recipt of any procedures what so ever]i thought i was entitled to my momey back.

2 the other 1 is re price of the chicken wire, only because,if it's reasonable i will just get that, and pay the extra.
Thank you for listening to me,and hope for some advice, and please can someone give that blessed s**t fairy a home till new year,,as i have had more than my fair share from all direction,
    thank you all

I was under the impression that faulty goods should be replaced or a full refund, credit notes are for other reasons of return.Try your local citizens advice ,they'll put you right, might have to resort to threatening them with a solicitor otherwise.

Under your Statutory Rights, goods must be "fit for purpose", or you are entitled to your money back. Google for Trading Standards or COnsumer Advice and I'm sure you'll come up with the relevant laws. You should print it out and take it with you when you visit the shop.
